AI should accelerate humanity’s exploration of the unknown and the universe.
For us, that starts with helping people understand something unfamiliar, try what once felt out of reach and help shape the future they want to live in.
More capability should mean more choice.
Reaching a goal is one challenge. Discovering a new direction worth pursuing is another. We focus on the second: how can new capabilities open up choices people can act on?
We look for overlooked connections between people’s experience, the circumstances around them and new technology. To judge whether an idea is worth pursuing, we need to understand what makes it feasible and whether the people involved want to try it.
Why build a value exchange network?
We start with everyday life and the relationships people choose to build. We want to understand how people discover possibilities, develop ideas and decide what to try.
Someone else’s experience can change how we see a problem. Their involvement can also make something possible that wasn’t before. Sometimes we only discover what we want to do through talking to one another.
More capable AI can help us do more on our own and open up new ways to work together. We are interested in those shared possibilities, while recognizing that collaboration isn’t always needed. A value exchange network has to show that it offers something meaningful beyond what people can do with their own tools.
AI can take the initiative. You choose the direction.
We want AI to notice what we’ve missed, ask questions and challenge our assumptions. People should be able to question it in return, correct it and decide how they want to take part.
Our design principles are straightforward: respect what a person wants, even when that means a collaboration doesn’t happen. Be clear when evidence is limited. Let what someone says today update the system’s understanding of them.
People should be free to start, pause, say no or leave. Automation can reduce the work we have to do and give us more control over how we spend our time. No one should have to stay busy to prove their value.
A long-term vision, tested in everyday life.
Exploring an idea may lead to a project we work on together. It may also leave us with a better question, or a good reason to stop.
Exploring the unknown and the universe is our long-term ambition. Today, our product needs to make a difference in people’s lives. The work we do now is how we put that ambition to the test.
